Tapes Reveal Cause of Colorado Fire

BOULDER, Colo. --

The Fourmile Canyon Fire erupted when a vehicle collided with a propane tank Monday morning, according to radio communication moments after the fire was reported.

At a Tuesday briefing, Boulder County Sheriff Joe Pelle said authorities are investigating whether the crash and propane explosion triggered the 7,120-acre wildfire.

Sept. 06--AMESBURY -- When a toxic mold outbreak last March forced Fire Department staff into trailers set up on the back lot of the town's public safety complex, it was thought the temporary housing would last for about six months.

But coming up on the six-month mark, fire Chief Jonathan Brickett said he expects firefighters will be in the trailers through the winter, given that planned fixes to both the fire station and police station have not yet begun.

An Attleborough woman was in the hospital Tuesday after she was stung hundreds of times by yellow jackets or wasps this weekend.

A 53-year-old woman apparently fell onto a nest outside her Division Street home and the insects swarmed over her entire torso, eventually stinging her more than 500 times, officials said.

Sept. 06--UPLAND -- The annual Upland Fire Department open house has been canceled due to budget constraints.

The open house was scheduled for Oct. 2 to give residents an opportunity to view the new fire station at Campus Avenue and 19th Street.

But city officials decided to opt out of spending the extra money.

Sept. 06--ST. PAUL -- Firefighters in St. Paul had difficulty entering a house Sunday afternoon to fight a fire and search for occupants because of "hoarder-like" conditions, fire officials said.

Firefighters finally had to break through windows to make entry because of the amount of property that blocked the doors at 195 Goodrich Ave., Fire Marshal Steve Zaccar said.

A SCHOOLBOY has been charged with attempting to steal a fire engine after crews were ambushed by a gang of youths as they battled a blaze in Edinburgh.

The 15-year-old is accused of jumping into the appliance and revving the engine in a bid to drive off, while up to 30 others - some as young as five - ran riot and pelted the crews with eggs.

BOULDER, Colo. --

A wind-whipped wildfire sent flames roaring through a rugged canyon in the Colorado foothills, forcing about 3,000 people to flee the area and destroying dozens of homes - some that belonged to the firefighters themselves, authorities said Tuesday.

Fire officials were assessing the extent of the damage and planned to release details at a morning news conference.
